Sebayeng – Police have launched a widespread manhunt following the brutal killing of an elderly woman and her domestic worker in Makotopong village outside of Polokwane, Limpopo.

The two victims, Moloko Nkoana, 88, and Maggie Molefe, 44, were last seen on August 16.

Their bodies were discovered when the granddaughter of the 88-year-old woman went to visit them. The bodies were already in a state of decomposition.

According to Limpopo provincial police spokesperson Ronel Otto, preliminary investigations indicated that one of the women was strangled while the other suffered multiple stab wounds.

"The motive for this killing is unknown at this stage but robbery may not be ruled out because the deceased's two cellphones are missing," Otto said in a statement.

Provincial commissioner Lieutenant-General Nneke Ledwaba expressed shock at the incident, saying it was a "barbaric act by the unscrupulous criminals affecting women right in the middle of Women's Month".

Police have urged anyone with information relating to the incident to contact Captain Ramoomedi Sekgota on 082 565 9165 or Captain Mokwele Mokgawa on 076 873 5667.
