Durban - KwaZulu-Natal Transport Community Safety and Liaison MEC Mxolisi Kaunda on Tuesday condemned the slaying of a bus driver on the outskirts of Pietermaritzburg.

Lindelani Gwala was shot while driving a busload of passengers.

Gwala died on the scene, while the bus came to a standstill in the yard of a house close by. He was the only person shot at in the bus.

Kaunda condemned the killing, describing it as "barbaric and unfortunate".

"We strongly condemn this barbaric act, and have called on the police to move swiftly with the investigation to ensure that they arrest the heartless killer.

"The killer must be caught to face the might of the law so we get to the bottom of what led them to commit such a crime, and therefore take sufficient measures to prevent similar occurrences in future," he said.
