Durban – KwaZulu-Natal Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube praised King Goodwill Zwelithini on his 68th birthday on Wednesday.

Dube-Ncube, whose department provides hands-on support to traditional institutions in KwaZuluN-Natal, said Zwelithini had tirelessly promoted KwaZulu-Natal’s rich cultural heritage and history.

"Throughout his leadership reign, His Majesty has made a mark as the champion of peace, reconciliation and unity of our people. He has devoted his life to working toward the upliftment of the poor, the creation of sustainable livelihoods and the fight against HIV/Aids in our diverse communities."

Dube-Ncube said the province appreciated the leading role that the king had played in the promotion of social and economic issues.

"As you celebrate this special day, iSilo SamaBandla [the King], we wish you all the best and pray to the Almighty to grant you more years and more strength to continue with your calling to champion the cause of our people. We wish you a very happy birthday!"
