Members involved in #OccupyLuthuliHouse should be disciplined - KZN ANC

2016-09-05 10:26

Durban – The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has condemned the #OccupyLuthuliHouse movement, which is calling for the resignation of ANC president Jacob Zuma and his national executive committee.

Provincial spokesperson Mdumiseni Ntuli said the province did not support the occupation of the party’s headquarters.

"Anyone doing that is discrediting the ANC," Ntuli said.

When asked if branches should take action against members participating in the protest, he said: "Members should not be allowed to openly undermine the organization. Branches should take swift action against those who are participating in the protest."

On Friday, Tshwane Youth League chairperson Lesego Makhubela, his deputy Ezra Letsoalo, and regional secretary Ratshi Mashamba stormed a briefing by the movement, claiming supporters had no permission to speak under the banner of the ANC.

The Gauteng ANC's provincial executive committee has also discouraged its members from participating in the protest.

The PEC, instead, called on its members to wait for a possible "special national consultative conference".

Security was beefed up at the party’s headquarters in Johannesburg on Monday as disgruntled members protested against the organisation.

ANC’s spokesperson Khusela Sangoni called on members to exercise maximum restraint and participate in a peaceful protest.

The #OccupyLuthuliHouse movement called on the public to not attend the demonstration because of alleged threats of violence.
