Pietermaritzburg - Mystery surrounds the death of a Pietermaritzburg pharmacy owner who was found dead on Monday after he went missing last week.

The body of Morgan Naidoo was found at the roadside near Lynnfield Park early on Monday morning.

It is believed Naidoo was found by a Road Traffic Inspectorate officer. He had two bullet wounds to the head. Police believe he was shot execution-style at the spot where he was found yesterday morning.

It remains unclear what happened to Naidoo between the time he went missing on Thursday and when he was found.

He was last seen leaving the Absa bank on Chatterton Road at about midday on Thursday. He had been driving his white Hyundai H100 bakkie at the time.

The bakkie is still missing and it is believed, according to a police source, that he had drawn a sum of about R4 000 from the bank before he went missing.

Speaking to The Witness yesterday, Naidoo’s brother, Ravi, said the family had been searching frantically for him after he did not return home on Thursday, with his cellphone also switched off.

Ravi described his brother, who lived in Lincoln Meade, as a caring and loving person who had helped many people.

“Morgan had a lot of friends. This has taken a huge toll on the family. He was a brother, father, son and husband,” he said.

“He did not come home that night and his phone was switched off, which was unlike him. We have been searching everywhere for him since.”

Ravi had put a desperate plea for information on social media site Facebook last week. The post was shared a number of times, sparking interest within the city.

“He [Naidoo] was a true friend to many people and was well respected by his staff. He was able to make a difference in many lives,” Ravi said.

Naidoo is survived by his wife and two children.

Friends and family took to social media throughout the four-day ordeal, expressing their well wishes and, after news of his death spread yesterday, their condolences.

According to Ravi, his brother’s funeral will take place tomorrow.
