Pretoria – The body of a Swiss man, who disappeared while attending a wedding in the Lowveld Botanical Gardens in Mbombela, was found on Saturday, Netwerk24 reported.

Nick Wiesmann, 76, was last seen at 18:15 the previous Saturday, when he went to fetch a jacket from his car, his wife Bettina told Netwerk24.

His body was found in the Crocodile River, adjacent to the botanical gardens. Albert Greyvenstein of Bossies Community Justice and Lieutenant-Colonel Erhard Stroh, the police officer investigating his disappearance, found him.

Greyvenstein spotted the body from an SAPS airwing plane.

According to Bettina, Wiesmann had suffered from bouts of memory loss.

After he was reported missing, the gardens were searched until 22:00. The search resumed at 06:00 on Sunday and continued throughout the week. The police made a helicopter available and sniffer dogs were brought in.

The search was stopped on Thursday. On Saturday, Greyvenstein and Stroh went back for another look and found Wiesmann's body around 17:00.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

The Wiesmanns had been living in Cape Town since their retirement.
