Johannesburg - The woman who allegedly abandoned her baby girl in the toilet of the Key West mall in Krugersdorp has been arrested, police have said.

The 27-year-old woman, an employee at the mall, was arrested at work on Wednesday afternoon, Captain Appel Ernst said in a statement.

She will appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrate's Court on a charge of child abandonment on Friday.

Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Investigations commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Kathy Segotta, said the baby was doing well.

A shopper found the baby in the toilets on Friday, May 5, the mall's marketing manager Michelle Papastefanou said.

She was taken to Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital.
