Polokwane - A businessman from Polokwane, who stands accused of murdering his wife in 2015, has a black cloud hovering over his family once again.

Police have confirmed Rameez Patel’s mother, Mahejeen Banu Patel, was shot dead at around 19:00 on Tuesday night at her home in Nirvana.

"An elderly woman was with her domestic worker when the armed suspect opened fire on them," police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said.

Mahejeen was rushed to the hospital where she died a few hours later, Ngoepe said in the statement. The domestic worker didn’t sustain any injuries.

“The motive behind this killing is still unclear as nothing was taken from the deceased's house.”

Patel's father was also killed last year.

Patel’s wife, Fatima, was killed on April 10, 2015.

In an exclusive interview with YOU that same year, Fatima’s devastated family couldn’t believe her husband had something to do with her death.

They said her skull and cheekbones had been shattered after she was shot in the face, her jaw dislocated and she was strangled.

“It’s hard to comprehend the violence she experienced,” her sister Rubina told us.

“She was tiny. She was all alone and probably screaming for help. She couldn’t fight – she wasn’t a fighter.”

Fatima left behind three children, including a six-month-old boy.

Patel is currently on trial on a charge of killing his wife.
