Durban - The N2 at Mandini in northern KZN has been reopened after taxi operators blocked the national carriageway with burning barricades on Tuesday morning.

Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said that operators had taken issue with RTI law enforcement in the area and the issuing of route permits.

He said that riot police had been deployed to the scene and were monitoring the situation closely.

IPSS Security’s Dylan Meyrick, who is at the scene, said the fire department had doused burning tyres which had been dragged into the road by protestors.

He said that under the watch of law enforcement officials, the road had been reopened which had begun to ease massive traffic backlogs in both directions.
