Pietermaritzburg - Two separate accidents on the N3 left one person dead, one family in a serious condition and 14 others with minor injuries on Wednesday.

According to ER24’s Paul Knoesen, in the first incident on the N3 near Ashburton, a minibus taxi and a car collided just before 4 pm yesterday.

The three occupants of the car — believed to be a husband, wife and their child — were taken to the MediClinic hospital in a serious condition.

The occupants in the taxi, 14 in total, were taken to Northdale Hospital with minor injuries.

A short time later, one woman died in a collision on the N3 near Townhill.

Knoesen said the woman, believed to be in her late 30s, allegedly rear-ended a truck and lost control of her vehicle, which then collided into a barrier.

Trapped in the car, the woman died before paramedics could reach the scene of the accident.

The cause of both accidents are unknown at this stage.
