Cape Town - Murder accused Delvigo Ward will remain behind bars as a bed has not yet become available for him at the Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital, the Bredasdorp Magistrate’s Court heard on Thursday.

The 20-year-old had been referred for observation following the brutal murder of 22-year-old Sulnita Manho, whose body was found at the lime works in the rural Overberg town in April.

She had apparently been at a local pub with friends when a man offered to walk her back to her farm outside Bredasdorp.

She was later found with a rope around her neck, and had been hit on the head with a brick, News24 previously reported.

She had also reportedly been raped and a bottle was inserted into her vagina.

Ward last month abandoned his bail bid. His mental state would be observed to establish if he was fit to stand trial.

The case was postponed to July 7.
