Pietermaritzburg - A two-year-old water leak in Ottos Bluff Road is waiting for customised fittings before it is fixed as the infrastructure is 20 years old.

The leak, that was found two years ago by a Woodlands resident who asked not to be named, has been gushing water for over two years.

Msunduzi municipal spokesperson Nqobile Madonda said there is a “prevailing problem with the infrastructure” because of how old it is.

“We are waiting for quotations from a service provider to fix it,” said Madonda.

“The infrastructure is old and cannot take any more repairs. Every time it is welded or fixed, it seems to burst in another area.”

She said they had tried to reduce the amount of water leaking from the pipe but the fittings needed are 20 years old and have to be custom-made.

“We have requested funding from council of R800 million to repair all the old water infrastructure in the city.”
