Mahikeng - A 33-year-old man has been sentenced to ten life sentences for 64 crimes he committed during 2012 and 2014.

The crimes include robbery, rape, kidnapping, possession of an unlicensed firearm, pointing of a firearm, house robbery, malicious damage to property, theft, possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a firearm, driving without a licence, reckless and negligent driving, attempted murder and attempted rape.

In a statement, North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo welcomed the sentencing of Thapelo Lucky Rababui in the Mmabatho High Court. Rababui was sentenced on Friday.

Mahumapelo said according to police, Rababui's modus operandi was to break into homes and attack and rape women. Some women were raped in front of their partners.

Rababui was eventually arrested when he was involved in an accident in Mahikeng and was found to be driving a stolen vehicle.

Mahumapelo commended police on their "thorough" investigation.

He said it was expected that Rababui would be back in court later this year in connection with further crimes, including murder.
