Pretoria - The National Prosecuting Authority is still considering its options regarding the six-year sentenced handed to convicted murderer Oscar Pistorius on Wednesday.

"We haven't made a decision yet, but we will consider our options going forward," spokesperson Bulelwa Makeke said.

Judge Thokozile Masipa sentenced the former Paralympian athlete to six years in prison for murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

Makeke said the NPA would inform the nation of its decision in due course.

"We will communicate on that as we go along," she said.

Pistorius was whisked away to prison on Wednesday after sentence was handed down. Many people took to social media to express shock at the sentence.

One user, Sthembiso Sithole, questioned how the men who robbed SABC reporter Vuyo Mvoko at gunpoint could get 15 years in prison while a convicted murderer only got six years.
