One killed, dozens injured in KZN bus crash

Pietermaritzburg - One person was killed and at least 40 were injured when a bus overturned near Ixopo in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands early on Saturday, paramedics said.

The accident occurred on the R56, with paramedics arriving at around 04:00 to find the bus on its side, with several people trapped inside, ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak said.

One person at died and at least three people were critically injured.

Injuries included amputations.

Several people had already been taken to local clinics and Christ the King Hospital and ER24 sent more resources to these clinics to help, he said.

Thirty one of the patients were treated at Christ the King Hospital and others were taken to Edendale and Greys hospitals respectively.

The cause of the accident would be investigated.
