Durban - A person was killed and another was injured in a horror crash on the N3 near Howick in the KZN Midlands on Thursday morning.

ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak said paramedics had responded to the scene and found the wreckage of two vehicles on fire in the centre median.

“Emergency services arrived on the scene where they found two vehicles in the centre median of the highway. Both of the vehicles were well alight. The driver of a bakkie involved in the collision was found walking around on the scene. He indicated that another person was still in the front vehicle,” he said.

Vermaak said that the local fire department managed to douse the fire.

“Paramedics found a victim dead in the front vehicle. It is not clear if the person died as a result of the collision or fire,” he said.

He added that the exact cause of the collision is not yet known. Local authorities attended the collision and will conduct an investigation.
