Polokwane - Three people were killed when an out-of-control bakkie struck them on Nelson Mandela drive in Seshego, Polokwane, late on Tuesday night.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Athlenda Mathe described the crash as “gruesome”.

“Reports from the scene indicate that a bakkie struck three pedestrians, killing all of them. When Netcare 911 paramedics and the provincial EMS arrived on scene, we found that two men had already died due to the extensive injuries they sustained,” she said.

The third person sustained serious injuries and died later in hospital.

Police were investigating, Mathe said.
