Cape Town - Eight people escaped with only slight injuries after a bus crashed into a traffic light in Athlone Industria on Monday morning.

City of Cape Traffic Services spokesperson Richard Coleman confirmed the accident resulted in road closures at the intersection at Jakes Gerwel Drive and Turfhall Road, which have since been reopened.

Coleman said the driver reported that his brakes had failed, however this would be investigated.

ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said its paramedics as well as other emergency services attended to the incident and were found to have sustained minor injuries.

“They were treated and transported to various local hospitals,” she said.
