Port Elizabeth - Attorney Pumla Silinga – the fugitive wife of Coega CEO Pepi Silinga – was on Friday sentenced to an effective six years’ imprisonment on charges of fraud.

The serial absconder was convicted of stealing R95 000 from a client’s trust account for the purchase of a property some time in 2007.

She had been arrested and appeared in court in 2013 and was released on a warning, and then failed to return to the dock.

She was re-arrested in April 2016 and pleaded guilty in court for fraud.

Silinga was released on warning and once again absconded when she was due to be sentenced.

Consequently, the court issued another warrant for arrest and once she was taken into custody again, served two months imprisonment for contempt of court.

Hawks spokesperson Captain Anelisa Feni said that the Port Elizabeth Special Commercial Crime court on Friday sentenced Silinga to 8 years imprisonment for fraud with two-years of this sentence has been suspended for 5 years.

The Eastern Cape Provincial Hawks head Major-General Nyameko Nogwanya, congratulated the investigating officer of this case for his steadfastness in ensuring that the perpetrator eventually faced justice.
