WATCH: Franziska Blöchliger's murder accused arrive in court

2016-03-11 13:33

On Friday, 11 March 2016 four men accused of being linked to the rape and murder of Franziska Blöchliger appeared in court. The case was postponed by a week.WATCH

Cape Town – A packed courtroom on Friday spat, hissed and shouted at the four men charged with killing Franziska Blöchliger.

The men, who cannot be named before pleading, looked back at the crowd in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court, but seemed unmoved.

Prosecutor Kepler Uys said they had obtained bail information and would oppose bail for all four.

The defence had raised concerns about accused number four facing all charges.

He was initially arrested on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property.

Uys told Magistrate Hafiza Mohamed: "At this stage, accused number four cannot be excluded from the crime of murder as well as rape."

He confirmed that all four faced charges of murder, rape and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

Their bail application was set down for April 5.

There was some commotion in court when it emerged that they would be detained at Pollsmoor Prison until then.

Supporters, some in pink shirts, shouted and pushed closer to the accused as they were led down to the police cells.

Blöchliger, 16, was found in Tokai Forest on March 7.

The teen was robbed of her iPhone, watch, headset and diamond ring.

Prosecutor Kepler Uys said at their first appearance that the accused were linked via witnesses and were found in possession of her belongings.
