PICS: 3 die in Eastern Cape 12-car pile up

2016-11-10 22:00

Durban - Three people, including a child, were killed on Thursday when a truck rammed into 12 cars on the N2 at Umzimvubu, near Mount Frere, the Eastern Cape government said.

Alfred Nzo District Municipality municipal spokesperson Lubabalo Majenge said the truck, which was carrying bricks, ploughed through 11 cars before it ended up on top of a bakkie, killing the driver and a child inside.

Majenge said the third victim was believed to have been a pedestrian.

He said authorities were investigating the cause of the accident and added that unconfirmed reports alleged the truck's brakes failed on a winding road.
