Pietermaritzburg - A man was shot and his brother assaulted during an armed robbery at a house in Northdale, Pietermaritzburg on Saturday morning, KwaZulu Natal police have confirmed.

Robbers hit the house in Balhambra Way at about 08:00, spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said.

"At gunpoint they took a TV, hard drive, airtime and an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspects assaulted the victim's brother and the victim was also shot. He sustained injuries," she said, although she did not say how serious they were.

The suspects then fled the scene.

No arrests have been made and investigations are under way, Gwala added.
