Johannesburg – A man hijacked in Germiston on Friday was found stabbed and wounded in the boot of his car during a routine search in Soweto, Johannesburg, metro police said.

A metro police officer stopped the white Hyundai in Diepkloof around 10:30 and asked the driver to produce his licence and to open the boot, spokesperson Superintendent Edna Mamonyane said.

The driver said the boot was jammed shut and could not be opened.

While the officer was talking to the driver she heard shouting and banging from the boot.

As she was alone and there were three men in the car she walked back to her car, claiming she would issue the driver with a fine because of his boot.

Instead she called for back-up.

When more officers arrived, the boot was opened. They found the car's owner.

He had been stabbed in the chest and bundled into the boot when he was hijacked earlier that morning.

Paramedics were called and he was taken to hospital.

Diepkloof police arrested the three men.
