Cape Town – A stolen vehicle and a gun under the driver’s seat. This is what Cape Town Metro Police found when they pulled over a police reservist and his two male passengers on Wednesday morning.

The three men were travelling in a VW Polo Vivo on the N2 when tactical response unit officers on their way to Gugulethu drove past, Metro Police Deputy Chief Yolande Faro said.

"The one suspect who was sitting at the back of the vehicle acted suspicious and nervous when he noticed the metro police officers."

Officers pulled the vehicle over between Duinefontein Road and Jakes Gerwel Drive offramps.

Stashed under the driver’s seat was a Taurus pistol with the serial number filed off, said Faro.

The vehicle was examined and found to have been stolen on November 12 this year, during a house robbery in Delft.

The Gauteng number plates on the vehicle were registered to a company, while a Cape Town registration number was reflected on the licence disk.

They were arrested and would appear in court soon. The charges they face are possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, using false number plates on a motor vehicle and armed robbery.
