Pretoria - A Pretoria policeman was shot and killed at his Rietfontein home on Monday, while a Free State policeman was strangled in Welkom, the Hawks said.

Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said Lieutenant Colonel Reinier Lourens Logois, who was the head of support at Leote police station in Pretoria, was shot dead on Monday night.

"Fourteen used cartridges were found at the scene. His 1993 Toyota Corolla is also missing and it is suspected that the culprits used it as a gateway vehicle," said Mulaudzi.

On Tuesday morning police were still combing the scene looking for clues that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.

In a separate incident on Monday, Constable Mbuyisela James Concoshi’s lifeless body was found in the back seat of his car along the road between Riebeeckstad and Thabong in Welkom.

"The marks on his neck showed that he was strangled to death. He also had wounds on his head. Concoshi, 34, was attached to [the] crime prevention [unit] at Welkom police station," Mulaudzi said.

The national head of the Hawks Lieutenant General Mthandazo Ntlemeza warned the perpetrators that they have now added their names to the list of the most wanted suspects. He vowed that they will not enjoy freedom for long.

He said task team members were very determined to hunt them down and bring them to justice.

"We have said it before that killing a police officer is declaring war against the state. Killing a police officer is threatening the security of the country and we will never allow cold-blooded criminals to run riot in our country. We are hunting the suspects and we will find them. We are determined to remove them from the society and their days of tormenting our officers are numbered," said Ntlemeza.
