Cape Town - An investigation is underway into the death of a Free State man who was knocked over by a police vehicle, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) said on Monday.

Officers responded to a domestic violence complaint in Qwaqwa on Saturday and accompanied the woman to her boyfriend’s place, spokesperson Robbie Raburabu said.

She alleged her boyfriend had taken their child.

“On arrival at the place, the child was collected, but the boyfriend stood in front of the police vehicle in an effort to prevent them from leaving with his child,” said Raburabu.

The driver allegedly knocked the 44-year-old man down deliberately. Ipid was investigating a case of culpable homicide.
