Johannesburg – Progress was being made in a number of recent murder cases in Krugersdorp, but no details that were not already known would be made public, police said on Wednesday.

They could not give a formal update on their investigations until possible links with other cases had been investigated, Captain Appel Ernst said.

Hanle Lategan, 52, an estate agent for Remax, was found dead in a veld in Randfontein on Tuesday. She went missing on Monday when she was supposed to meet clients at a house in Krugersdorp.

She was last seen at a Krugersdorp hospital, where she had parked her car and where two men driving a green Opel Corsa apparently approached her.

A colleague of Lategan's, Monica Coetzee, posted on the Facebook group eblockwatch that they tried calling her multiple times when she missed her appointment, but her phone was off.

All victims had appointments

"We know that they tried to draw money from Hanle's card at the ATM at 18:37 and possibly swapped cars at the hospital. We are now on the lookout for a green Opel Corsa, 2-door old model," Coetzee said.

The bodies of two insurance brokers, Anthony Scholefield, 64, and Kevin McAlpine, 29, were found in the boots of their cars in the same area on May 10 and 26. All three victims had scheduled appointments with clients at 18:00.

Ernst said they were positive they would succeed in bringing the suspects to book.

"An investigation into any crime of this nature requires some degree of sensitivity. And the South African Police Service does not conduct investigations in the social, printed or electronic media, since the focus of Saps investigations is the chain of evidence."

Scholefield was found on Premier Street in Krugersdorp. McAlpine's body was found on the corner of Sivewright and Francis Street, only a few blocks away.

Lategan's last sighting, at the hospital, was 2.1km from where Scholefield was found and about 800m from where McAlpine was found.
