Cape Town – Two men were lucky to escape a fire at a building in Somerset West in the Western Cape early on Monday morning.

According to a post on the local community newspaper, DistrictMail, the blaze began in the lounge of the double-storey house just before 07:00.

Two men, still in their pyjamas, escaped just in time, said News24 staffer on the scene Wallace du Plessis.

No injuries were reported.

By 09:00, Du Plessis said the fire had mostly been put out.

Liezl Moodie for Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services said the fire department arrived on the scene at 07:02.

The building was still alight on arrival, and three vehicles were on scene tending to the fire.
