Cape Town – An eight-year-old boy is in a stable condition after quick thinking bystanders saved his life after a near-drowning incident, paramedics have said.

The boy was found unresponsive in the water at a lodge outside Potchefstroom and pulled out by the bystanders on Saturday, ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak said.

He said the bystanders performed CPR on him before paramedics arrived and he then responded.

He was assessed and transported to Potchefstroom Provincial Hospital for observation.

"The quick action and response of the bystanders contributed to saving the life of this little boy," he said.
