R50 000 reward for Cape Town cop killers - MEC

2016-06-13 14:26

Cape Town - Western Cape Community Safety MEC Dan Plato said on Monday that a R50 000 reward was being offered for information relating to a police killing in Delft.

"The reward is open to anyone who can assist with information that will result in the arrest and the successful conviction of those involved in the killing of police officers in the Western Cape," said Plato.

"This murder in cold blood is an attack on the police and an attack on the communities our officers work to keep safe."

A policeman was shot dead and his colleague wounded when they responded to a suspected attempted ATM bombing at a petrol station on Monday morning in Delft.

Western Cape Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Lloyd Ramovha said that the 40-year-old constable was shot and killed at 03:20 by two gunmen wielding AK47s.

The suspects, along with three accomplices who had been inside the shop, then fled the scene.

The wounded warrant officer was currently in hospital.

Plato said he had "faith" in the police to ensure that "those responsible will be caught and will face the full might of the law".

"I call on law-abiding residents of the province to help with information that can see the murderers brought to justice by the police," Plato said.
