Cape Town - It took six robbers only three minutes and 20 seconds to make off with R2m worth of valuables from a Green Point jewellery store.

Jeweller Dimitris Voyiatzis of Miltos Jewellers, situated at the Rockwell Hotel, said the company was offering a R20 000 reward for anyone able to identify the gang who hit the business or return any of the pieces stolen during the Youth Day heist.

Six men hit the family business at 01:00 last Thursday.

"The three security guards we have stationed in the foyer as well as the receptionist of the hotel were held at gunpoint," Voyiatzis told News24.

"They kicked in the glass door and broke the showcases, emptying everything."

No one was injured.

Voyiatzis said their pieces were not insured due to the on-site security and other security measures.

"The last time something like this happened was in the '90s. We thought we were safe – we are situated right opposite the [provincial] police’s headquarters."

Police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana confirmed the incident was being investigated.

No arrests have been made.
