Stellenbosch - Real estate executive Jason Rohde, accused of killing his wife Susan at an upmarket hotel, was released on R1.1 million bail by the Stellenbosch Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

The State did not oppose bail anymore, even though it is a Schedule 5 offence.

He was released on condition he pay R100, 000 cash now and provide a R1 million surety guarantee.

Rohde has to report to the Melkbosstrand police station on the Cape West Coast on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

He will live at a secret location and Magistrate Gregory Daniels said the details of witnesses must not be revealed.

At his next appearance on September 23 the court will argue whether he should be allowed to cross provincial lines to go to Gauteng to be with his daughter who writes matric soon.

The greying Bryanston father of three said he found his wife dead in their bathroom at Spier wine estate.

The multi-millionaire couple had been attending a conference at the estate.

The CEO of Geffen International Realty Franchises sat very still in court, only speaking to confirm that he understood proceedings.

His wife was found dead in the bathroom at Spier on 24 July and initially suicide was considered as a cause. Rohde's affidavit said they had been in counselling and she had felt suicidal before.

After a quick investigation, Rohde was investigated and charged.

His advocate Pete Mihalik demanded to see the state's pathology report on Susan Rohde, after his defence had already provided their privately commissioned one.

He complained that Die Burger newspaper already seemed to have it so why couldn't the defence.

The magistrate said no to this request.
