Three arrested and one injured in Sandton shootout.WATCH

Durban - A suspected robber is under police guard in hospital after a dramatic shoot-out with security guards in Westmead, Pinetown, in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said a gang of seven robbers had held up two security guards stationed at the premises of a business in Ficus Place shortly before 04:00.

"When our officer arrived on the scene a suspect came out of the guard room and fired several shots at him. He [the officer] returned fire before calling for backup. The suspect fled the scene," he said.

"Our officer investigated further and found a security guard handcuffed inside the guard room and a second suspect, who had been shot earlier by the second security guard, lying injured at the back of the property."

Paramedics transported the injured suspect to hospital.

Jackson said the robbers managed to get away with computers.
