Durban - A father and daughter are refusing to comment on an alleged bar brawl involving them and Sharks rugby player Kyle Cooper at the weekend.

Police are investigating cases of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and common assault after the altercation at the Fynnlands bar, the Bluff, shortly before 02:00 on Sunday morning, KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Lieutenant Nqobile Gwala said.

The Mercury reported that Cooper appeared in the Wentworth Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday and was released on R500 bail.

Cooper allegedly struck 19-year-old Camilla Johannessen after an argument, and was then involved in an altercation with Johannessen’s father Donald in the car park, the paper reported.

Gwala said the father sustained bruises on both arms, his ribs, and a swollen eye. A 27-year-old man was arrested and charged.

Donald Johannessen’s wife Cindy told News24 they were not comfortable speaking to the press.

“We need to speak to our lawyer first because we don’t want to say anything that is going to be turned against us and jeopardise our case,” she said.
