Johannesburg – A shooting incident near Vanderbijlpark claimed the lives of two people on Wednesday evening.

The two men – both believed to be in their 40's - sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said in a statement that the men were found lying on the side of the road on the R553 near Bophelong.

"Sadly there was nothing that could be done for them and they were declared dead," Bodasing said.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are still unknown with the South African Police Service set to investigate the matter.
