Johannesburg – Six people, including a seven-year-old girl and her six-month-old baby brother, were injured in a three-car collision in Vanderbijlpark on Friday, paramedics said.

"Two of the vehicles allegedly collided head-on with each other and the third was part of a secondary collision that is believed to have been caused by the first collision," ER24 spokesperson Pieter Rossouw said.

One person was critically injured and had to be removed from one of the cars using hydraulic equipment.

Five people, including the two children and their mother, were taken to hospital, Rossouw said.

The cause of the crash is not known.
