Polokwane – An alleged rapist was literally caught napping by Limpopo police after his victim stole away and raised the alarm while he slumbered.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said police officers descended on a bushy area near Masakhaneng section of Ga-Kgapane township on the outskirts of Tzaneen on Monday.

“The victim was dragged by this suspect forcefully to the nearby bushes and raped. Subsequently he fell asleep and the victim managed to escape and call the police. The suspect was immediately arrested while still sleeping,” he said.

The 26-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Bolobedu Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

In another incident, police in Modjadjiskloof have thrown out a wide net for the suspects involved in the slaying of a 35-year-old woman.

“This incident took place at Montina Farm in Driehoek where the body of the deceased was found lying next to the road with multiple stab wounds on her body. She was half-naked,” he said.

“The motive of the killing is still unknown and it is not clear yet whether the victim was raped or not and the post-mortem will determine that,” Ngoepe added.

Anyone with information about who the suspects are, may contact the nearest police station or the SAPS Crime Stop number 0860010111.
