Pretoria- The case against two State Security Agency (SSA) employees implicated in the theft of R17m was postponed in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

William Mmotong, a driver, and Khayalethu Mgatyelwa, a security guard, made a brief appearance before the matter was postponed to February 18 for further investigation.

Mmotong entered the court wearing a hoodie and covering his mouth to try and avoid being photographed. He waved to the packed gallery when he left the courtroom.

The men allegedly stole millions in foreign currency from a safe at the agency's Pretoria headquarters between Christmas and Boxing Day.

Mgatyelwa was out on R5 000 bail and Mmotong remained in custody. He was expected to apply for bail on January 25.

Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said one of the suspects was captured on CCTV footage.

He would not say whether any of the money had been recovered.
