Bloemfontein - A Free State maths teacher allegedly used the k-word with school governing body (SGB) members in a WhatsApp message, said education department spokesperson Howard Ndaba.

Ndaba told News24 on Wednesday that Flip Snyman will soon face disciplinary action after he sent racist WhatsApp messages to Sanet de Villers who serves as a member of the SGB and is also a teacher.

Snyman has declined to comment, saying his trade union is dealing with the matter.

The department received a complaint on the matter last week.

“Snyman sent WhatsApp messages to De Villiers at midnight and referred to all the SGB members as being kaffirs and that she doesn't deserve a leadership position,” said Ndaba.

He said the SGB is mostly served by black and coloured individuals.

“His second message which he wrote in Afrikaans accused the teacher of being an arse-licker [gatkruiper] – the message says De Villiers does not have a backbone and she should apologise to him.

“As the department we take these allegations seriously and we won’t tolerate any form of racism in our schools. We call on parents and learners to report any form of racism,” said Ndaba.

Snyman faces two charges, including contravening the Employment of Educator's Act by using the "K-word" and displaying disrespect at work by calling De Villiers an "arse-licker", said Ndaba.

Snyman said his trade union lawyers are handling the matter, but added that he had no bad feelings towards the teacher who received the WhatsApp messages.

"We still work together but we don't speak to each other, however, I don't have any angry feelings towards her," he said.

Snyman’s hearing will be on November 27.

Read the messages Snyman sent:

Translated, it reads as: "Like Estelle says. A massive (moerse) circus today. Award evenings future so I not in school hall sit. But you dont like me. I take you on. Do you know head magistrate Free State to me apologise and all my stress. But you mos tell Estelle your governing bodies' girls are not safe.

Stare me say sorry. Will you and your k-word governing body also be man enough to apologise to me. No you too slapgat (lazy ass) to open your mouth. Hufe and Miemie also ass lickers (gatkruipers). Whole staff laugh at you. Believe me.

I hear how they talk. But the circus today highlight. You scandal for us. You not belong on governing body. You just lick ass (kruip gat). Marelize m call and ask how it goes. I tell her. Her words. Sanet go crazy. No she not go crazy. She just lick ass (kruip gat) and has (fo - maybe f-all?) brain and not know how laugh whole staff at you. I await apology. You weak and low man. Sell out your own people to kruip gat (lick ass).

I just want to tell you this. You organise an awards evening like your ass because a person has to talk cant maintain discipline. But your ass "mos" in a curl. Dont ask me. But you are looking for it. I mos guilty. You not have guts to say.

Stop it. You talk together with others. I tell you tonight a few years me still school when you organise the circus of today. You ask me please for nothing. Ask your circus friend. I am ashamed to know you. Do you know, my neighbour is opening up a butchery hunt. Joe and his meat and everything so lekker and prices beat everyone. Next year I insist on quotations from three butcheries on hunt for boarding school. Family cant benefit unduly.

Sanet that's how you treat me. Very innocent. Estelle talks to you but she despises you. You have no backbone. Please never in your life greet me before you not personally say sorry. Joe and my neirghbour will take a lot of business His meat very good quiality and boarding school tenders will be looked at. Sanet you ask for it. That is how you treat me by licking ass at the k-word."
