Durban – Three women have appeared in court for allegedly raping a man in Hluhluwe, northern KwaZulu-Natal, the Commission for Gender Equality said on Wednesday.

The case against the women, who appeared in the Hluhluwe Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, was postponed to November 24, commission spokesperson Javu Baloyi said.

According to a Daily News report, a video of the incident was posted on social media and went viral.

The man told the newspaper that he was at home when he received a phone call from a woman he knew, who asked for help with an electrical fault. When he arrived there, he saw another woman but did not pay attention to her.

The victim said a third woman, who was hiding behind the door, appeared and closed the door. The three women allegedly told him they wanted to sleep with him and attacked him.

After the incident, he told his sister, but she did not believe him until later when the video appeared online.

The commission encouraged men to report cases of rape.

“Rape is rape regardless of who is the perpetrator of such a heinous crime. The Commission for Gender Equality is encouraging men who are raped to report such acts and speak out against them.

“Society should also be alert to the fact that boys and men do also get sexually violated,” CGE chairperson, Mfanozelwe Shozi, said in a statement.

The commission discouraged people from circulating the video of the alleged rape.
