Port Elizabeth – A top Port Elizabeth cop has been attacked and robbed in his Summerstrand home.

Major General Dawie Rabie, the commander of the Motherwell precinct, sustained head injuries while taking on four robbers in his house on Wednesday evening, Netwerk24 reported.

Eastern Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Marinda Mills said Rabie, his grandchild and another member of his family were in the house at about 19:00 when he heard an unfamiliar voice.

When he went to investigate, he found four men in the house.

The men had gained entry by removing the burglar bars from a window in one of the rooms.

Rabie confronted the men and a struggle ensued.

Mills said the men had made off with three cellphones and an iPad.

By Wednesday evening, no one had been arrested, despite police searching the bushes in the area for leads.

Mills said Rabie’s injuries weren’t serious and he received medical treatment at home.
