Krugersdorp - Two people were arrested on Wednesday after a seemingly botched robbery at a tuckshop in the Matshelapad informal settlement in Krugersdorp, west of Johannesburg.

The man and woman were caught by community members while their two accomplices managed to flee the scene, said Constable Lucky Matome.

"It is alleged that four suspects, three males and a female, entered the tuckshop and pointed the shop keeper with a firearm and took an undisclosed amount of money, airtime and groceries," said Matome.

Community members who witnessed the incident intervened and managed to apprehend two of the suspected robbers while the other two fled on foot.

"They are allegedly both armed with firearms," Matome said, referring to those who fled.

Police responded to the scene where they found one revolver and five rounds of ammunition on one of the suspects.

Some airtime and groceries were also recovered.

The pair was expected to appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrate's Court soon while the search continued for the other two suspects.
