Kimberley – A head-on collision between a truck and a bakkie in Kimberley, Northern Cape on Tuesday left two people dead and seven others injured.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics arrived at the scene on the R64 to find two men had died as a result of their injuries.

“On inspection, paramedics found the lifeless bodies of two men lying trapped inside the bakkie. Unfortunately, both men had sustained fatal injuries in the collision. Nothing more could be done for the patients and they were declared dead on scene,” he said.

Seven other people sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate and were treated on the scene before being transported to hospital.

Meiring said the cause of the collision was still unknown, but that authorities were investigating.
