Cape Town – Two people were killed when they lost control of their quad bike in Brackenfell in on Tuesday, mere days after it was bought.

The two were allegedly not wearing any protective gear when the accident occurred.

Traffic services spokesperson Maxine Jordaan said a male and a female, between the ages of 32 and 37, were testing out the quad bike in the suburb when the accident happened.

“It is alleged that the two decided to go for a ride to test the bike, which was bought only a few days before. The male was driving. He lost control of the quad bike when they hit a curb.”

The two victims, who live two streets away from each other, died on impact.

“Neither of them were not wearing any kind of safety gear at the time of the accident,” she said.

Police were investigating the accident.

Brackenfell Community Policing Forum chairperson Shaun Mccleland said the families of the victims were still being notified and counselled.

He described it as an unfortunate accident. “They lost control turning a corner. It’s actually very sad. We shouldn’t be losing so many lives on the roads, let alone when it is holiday time.”
