CCTV footage has been published of a petrol attendant being brutally assaulted by two men in Tzaneen, Limpopo. Watch. WATCH

Tzaneen – Two men appeared in the Tzaneen Magistrate's Court on Tuesday for an allegedly racially-motivated assault of a petrol attendant, Limpopo police said.

Hermanus van Dyk, 36, and Danie Le Roux, 27, appeared on a charge of assault each, Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said on Wednesday.

Van Dyk was granted R500 bail and Le Roux R1000. They would appear in court again next Wednesday.

Ngoepe said they would thoroughly investigate the matter.

CCTV footage doing the rounds on social media shows 31-year-old Johannes Monyela being beaten on Saturday night. Some media have called the attack racially motivated.

The footage shows three men arrive in a red vehicle. Monyela has a conversation with the driver. One of the passengers steps out and starts to hit him. The other passenger joins in.

Monyela runs into the staff room. The two follow him inside and the attack continues. A third man, the driver, appears to be trying to break up the fight.
