White River – A man accused of hijacking and kidnapping Annatjie Myburgh, whose body was found at the weekend, appeared in the White River Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Mpumalanga police said Selby John Mabila, 26, would remain in custody until he returned to court for a bail application in a week’s time.

Mabila was arrested near Hazyview on Saturday night, said police spokesperson Sergeant Gerald Sedibe.

His alleged accomplice, 32, was arrested in Bushbuckridge the following night. He was expected to appear in court on Tuesday.

Myburgh, 53, was on her way to work when she was accosted by four armed men at the gate of her farm house in Curlews on Wednesday morning.

They hijacked her vehicle, a white Mitsubishi Pajero, forced Myburgh into the car, and drove off with her, Sedibe said.

Her glasses and two pangas were found at the gate.

The K9-unit, flying squad, private security companies and residents launched searches to find her.

The men currently faced charges of hijacking and kidnapping.

Further charges could be added once they had the results of the post-mortem.

Sedibe said these results were expected soon.
