Lebowakgomo – Two men accused of murdering and mutilating two boys, aged seven and 10, near Ga-Chuene in Thokgwaneng, Limpopo appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

One of the men, Daniel Makibane Mamabolo was arrested at the weekend, police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said.

The first suspect, Chuene Lucas Madimetja, who is also the 10-year-old boy's stepfather, would remain in custody until January 26 pending further investigation.

Mamabolo’s matter was postponed to December 19, also for further investigation.

The mutilated bodies of seven-year-old Petrus Shoka and Samuel Ngobeni, 10, were found on December 1.

They pair went missing on November 28, after they were last seen playing in a village street.

Ngoepe said a passer-by found the bodies in the bushes. They had multiple head injuries.

The motive behind the killings was unknown.

Three local sangomas aged 25, 46, and 39 were held for questioning but were later released after they could not be linked to the murders.
