Bloemfontein – Two horrifying stories of neglect and rape have been detailed on charge sheets against two sets of parents living on small holdings outside Bloemfontein.

In the first case, one of the allegations against the Bloemspruit couple is that when their 11-year-old daughter was raped by several men the parents laughed at her pleas for help, Netwerk24 reported.

In the second, the father of three girls, who are 5, 8 and 13 years old, is alleged to have raped each of them several times from 2011 to 2015. Their mother was aware of the rapes, their charge sheet reads.

Both couples are appearing in the Free State High Court in October and November in separate trials. Both men are aged 43 and both women are 35 years old.

The couple from Bloemspruit allegedly forced the 11-year-old girl and her younger brother to smoke dagga and use other drugs. According to the State, the mother sometimes held the girl while she was raped. The two children were also made to watch while their mother had sex with several men. Afterwards, the adults would eat chicken and throw the bones to the children to eat.

The children were locked in the house with no food, water or electricity when the parents went out.

According to the State, the children were scared, dirty and clearly underfed when they were found. It was later determined that they had only been to school a few times and can't read or write.

Friend targeted

The father in the Roodewal case had allegedly been molesting his eldest daughter since 2007, according to the charge sheet. He started raping her in 2011.

The youngest was raped in 2012 and 2013 and the middle child in 2014 and 2015.

The children's plight was brought to the attention of authorities when a 14-year-old friend of one of the girls went on a visit to Maselspoort with the family. The father gave her his eldest daughter and her friend beer.

The friend got drunk and fell asleep on a bed.

According to the State, she woke up in pain. She was naked and her friend's father was in bed with her.

She went to the mother for help and the incident was reported. During the investigation the three girls told police they had often been raped.

They said their mother knew about it and did nothing to stop it.
