Cape Town – Police uniforms, bulletproof vests, and unlicensed pistols were found when officers pulled over a hijacked car in Nyanga, Western Cape police said on Tuesday.

The white Toyota Fortuner was pulled over on Govan Mbeki Road for inspection on Monday afternoon, Captain FC van Wyk said.

Three men, aged 29, 42, and 46, were in the vehicle.

Police found various SAPS items, including a shirt, bunny jacket, reflector jacket, a pair of trousers, and constable rank insignia, as well as a blue light, a siren, two-way radios, and bulletproof vests.

Three pistols without serial numbers were recovered. It was established that the car had been hijacked in Malmesbury in March.

The men were from Mfuleni, Khayelitsha, and Lower Crossroads.

They were arrested for impersonating police officers and the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. They would appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
