CCTV footage has emerged of three men attempting to rob an unknown woman in Goring Avenue in Auckland Park on Monday 11 September.

In the clip shared on social media, the woman can be seen walking down the street just after 5 pm when a black MG Rover with silver stripes pulls up next to her. Two men then climb out of the vehicle and attack the woman to get her bags.

The thieves wrestle with the woman but soon give up. They jump back into the car and the driver speeds off.

According to Times Live, the men were arrested after the car was spotted at several different panel beating shops around Brixton hours later – the assailants were comparing quotes for car paint.

“The men were caught in Brixton,” Lieutenant Kay Makhubele told Times Live. “They have been charged with armed robbery.

“They were also found in possession of a laptop that we suspect belongs to the University of Johannesburg student that was seen in the CCTV footage.”

The suspects will soon appear in Johannesburg Magistrates court.
